Tuition Assistance Top Up (TATU)

Topping Up Tuition Assistance allows an active-duty student to use both their TA benefits and VA benefits for the same courses. The Top Up amount is the difference of what the Department of Defense pays for Tuition Assistance and the tuition rate charged by Bellevue University. The amount of the VA funds used in the Top Up program will be deducted from the student's total Veterans Education Benefits eligibility. The Veterans Services Team at Bellevue University will certify your enrollment after verifying your degree program or certificate program is approved for VA Education Benefits*

  • Chapter 30 (Montgomery) and “Top-up”
Individuals on active duty who are eligible for Chapter 30 and approved for TA are eligible for Top-up. Top-up allows VA to pay the difference between what TA pays and the cost of the course.
  • Assistance Chapter 33 (Post 9/11)
Chapter 33 Veterans Education Benefits can be used in addition to Active-Duty Tuition Assistance. This is not considered to be Tuition Assistance TOP-UP by the VA.
  • Chapter 1606 (Montgomery - Selected Reserve)
All qualified Selected Reserve Service members are authorized concurrent TA and Chapter 1606 benefits when enrolled in a program of education that is half-time or greater. Concurrent use is not authorized when enrolled less than half-time.
