All new international students new to the United States must complete a tuberculosis (TB) skin test within the first two weeks of their first semester to ensure the health and wellbeing of the international student and campus as a whole. Students must complete a TB skin test after arrival in the United States. The TB test may be conducted at any clinic of the student’s choosing, but must be completed within the United States. Tests completed outside the US will not be accepted.
The initial skin test must be completed in the US within two weeks after the start of classes in a student's first term at Bellevue University.
Exceptions apply for individuals who will be in Bellevue less than four weeks for a short-term program, students who have transferred from another U.S. university, and for students who have documentation to show that they have already completed a TB test that was negative in the United States within the last six months.
For convenience, you may choose to have the initial skin test completed at the clinic close to campus:
Family Wellness at FP Associates, P.C.
1103 Galvin Road South, Suite F
University Plaza - East of Bellevue University, just behind the Wells Fargo Bank
1.402.292.1072 or [email protected]
The skin test process is completed over two days. The first visit is the application of the skin test. During the second visit, 48 hours later, a health professional will read the skin test for results. Students must attend both dates in order for the test to be valid. No appointment is needed for TB testing at Family Wellness at FP Associates, but is recommended. The skin test cannot be read any later than 72 hours after the skin injection.
A cash payment of $20 is required for the TB skin test if completed at Family Wellness at FP Associates.
All positive test results should be reviewed with a physician at a separate visit. A person with a positive result must have a chest x-ray and a doctor’s appointment to review the results and discuss treatment recommendations if necessary. Contact your insurance provider for copayment amounts and benefit limitations.
Students with active TB may be placed in isolation while following the treatment plan provided by the clinic.
To complete the requirement, students must have the results of the skin test and/or x-ray sent directly from the clinic to Bellevue University. Results may be sent to the Accommodations Resource Center either by U.S. mail, attachment to an official email address (to disability@bellevue), or by fax (1.402.557.5405).
Students who do not complete the requirement within the first 2 weeks of classes will be reported to the Dean of Students for appropriate action. In addition, future enrollment will be blocked until the requirement has been met.
