BRUIN Connect SSO Project: Bellevue University Alumni Email Access Change

As part of Bellevue University’s move to a Single Sign On technology management solution, a change is being made in the Bellevue University’s policy surrounding email accounts for alumni.
Here are 10 facts you need to know about this policy change.

Fact 1: Until now, Bellevue University has provided alumni with a free lifetime email address. This is communicated in several ways, including via communications to alumni sent by Advancement, through Student Coaches, and through commencement communications.

Fact 2: Per a change in IT policy, Inactive alumni email accounts will be removed on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020. Inactive accounts are defined as accounts where the password has not been updated in the previous 27 months.

Fact 3: Alumni who have updated their email account password in the previous 27 months will not be impacted. However, they will be encouraged to update their password regularly to ensure the email account stays active.

Fact 4: The accounts are being removed to improve management and security of university email systems. The policy change helps ensure the university is in compliance with all software licensing agreements and helps prevent inactive email accounts for being used for fraudulent purposes. This policy change regarding email accounts follows the removal of alumni and inactive students’ Microsoft Office365 tools access. That access was removed in July 2020.

Fact 5: This change in policy is being communicated to alumni before the change occurs and alumni will have the opportunity to change their password and keep their account active.

Fact 6: Alumni whose university email accounts are removed may later request new email accounts/addresses. If a request is received within three weeks of the account removal, the account and the messages it contains may be able to be restored. If the request is received more than three weeks after the account is removed, the new email account will not contain and of the messages from the prior account.

Fact 7: This change in alumni email policy applies to Bellevue University staff and faculty who are university alumni.

Fact 8: If you or an alumni you are interacting with has questions about this policy change, please contact [email protected] or call 1-402-293-2000 or 1-800-756-7920.

Fact 9: Going forward, alumni will be notified about the nature of their email account and this policy 30 days prior and one day prior to the account action.

Fact 10: Internal staff who use Campus Solutions’ data to contact alumni should be aware that at this time the email address is not being removed or altered within CS. This is a planned action, but the issue is still in discovery with the ITAS Development team.
